Scrubland ("maquis") in Cireygeol February 1943 - May 1944
In early 1943 my parents decided it was too dangerous for them to live openly after Peter's arrest the previous August (see stories "Why do we do the things we do?", and "26.August.1942"). Friedl and three-month-old Tom went into a home for unwed mothers in Perigueux, and Peter went to live and work on a farm near Bergerac, which was a center of the local Resistance ("maquis"). They were able to see each other only occasionally for the next fifteen months.
